After a few years contemplating what career path I wanted to take, I came to the realisation that I love to help others. I therefore started my nurse training in 2008 at Kingston University.
I qualified and took a job at a Hyper Acute Stroke Unit at St Georges. This role enabled me to learn valuable skills in caring for very sick patients. I was on a 2 year Neuro Rotation programme and after a year I started working on a Neuro Rehabilitation Ward within St Georges Hospital. I knew this ward and the team very well due to it being my final placement as a 3rd year nursing student. I loved it so much that I ended up staying for 3 years.
Although I loved the challenges that caring for patients neuro conditions brought, I felt that I needed to explore something new.
I have always taken a keen interest in Women’s and Sexual Health. I have worked at St Marys in Paddington and Kingston Hospital over a 4 year period. Despite enjoying this role, I wanted to start a new venture in Primary Care. I therefore started Practice Nursing in 2016 and have never looked back.
I have gained invaluable knowledge and understating about the practice nurse role. It has also given me wonderful opportunities to become Lead Nurse at my NHS surgery for Childhood Immunisations, Asthma, Infection Control and Women’s Health. This specialist role enables you to work autonomously and gives a greater understating about the needs of my patients. It’s also fantastic to work with a great team of GPs and other Practice Nurses. I have come to love this aspect of nursing and will continue to do so.
I have two boys, a cat and a husband that keep me very busy! I love to read and practice Pilates regularly (to unwind). I have a real passion for music and ballet too.
