As you are aware, apart from the Group B streptococcus swab, you can get these swabs done for free, under the NHS, at your local GUM (sexually transmitted disease) clinic.
If you find it difficult to get to your local GUM clinic or the times are inconvenient for you, why not have it done with us. We will post the results to your home address (unless otherwise stated).
Group B streptococcus can cause catastrophic infections in your newborn child. Unfortunately, the NHS cannot screen all women for this bacterial infection. If you would like to know if you are a carrier of this infection during your pregnancy, it is best to perform these swabs between 35 and 37 weeks pregnant.
If, by misfortune, your results do come back as being abnormal, we would be more than happy to discuss treatment with you via our GP Telephone Results Interpreting Service. HOWEVER, in these circumstances, we would always recommend that you go straight away to your local GUM clinic. This is because if you have one sexually transmitted disease (N.B. Thrush and Bacterial vaginosis are not sexually transmitted diseases), there is always a risk that you could have another. Furthermore, you will need to be contact traced (that is, find out the chain of sexual partners that also need to be screened and treated) and this is best done under the expertise of your local GUM clinic.
Please Call us or email us so that we may make a booking for you.
