Blood Tests London

Private Blood Tests London

The GP Surgery London range of services include same day private blood tests taken and interpreted by a doctor with professionalism and care. We guarantee a rapid turnaround of results for venous blood tests analysed by a premier central London laboratory.

Blood tests have long been regarded as one of the most important diagnostic tests as it provides doctors with a wealth of information about a patient’s overall health.

Regular blood testing can help with early detection of diseases, monitor chronic conditions, assess your organ function or monitor how well your body responds to treatment.

Why use our blood testing service rather than other providers?

  • Accurate venous blood tests from your arm: Other providers use finger prick blood tests that collect a low quantity blood from your capillaries instead of your veins. Hence results can be less accurate, especially because many samples are affected by haemolysis.
  • We use a first-rate UKAS-registered central London laboratory to analyse all our blood samples. Motorbike couriers operate twice a day to ensure the rapid transit of samples and minimise processing delays. Other providers may send samples outside England to non-UKAS-registered labs.
  • A GP will take your blood sample to ensure the appropriate tests are done. Other providers use healthcare assistants who lack the knowledge to ascertain whether your test is appropriate.
  • One of our GPs will individually review and provide an interpreted explanation on any abnormal test result. Other providers do not have a doctor to review your results. You will therefore receive your results with no explanation or one derived from a bot which is often misinterpreted and cause needless anxiety in patients.

Cost breakdown blood test taken by one of our doctors:

  • One-off £39 administration fee per visit;
  • Plus laboratory cost (Select your blood test for individual cost of each);
  • £5 surcharge on weekends.

‘Price Beat Guarantee’ policy

The GP Surgery offers a Price Beat Guarantee on all our blood tests (offer valid until the scheduled date of your blood test). This does not include the administration fee and is only valid in comparison with a UK-qualified GP service making use of a UK laboratory’s analysis.

What is a routine blood test and why is it important?

Going for a routine blood test at least once a year is an important way to keep track of your overall physical health. Knowing your cholesterol levels could for instance help you to adapt your diet or fitness plans.

Many heart, lung and kidney conditions can also be detected at an early stage through blood tests.

A typical routine blood test entails a complete blood count, also called CBC, to count your red and white blood cells, as well as measure your hemoglobin levels and other blood components.

Select your blood test

Certain blood tests are not performed by the NHS unless you are ill.

However, these are tests that you may want to perform for your own peace of mind, including tests for your blood group,  cholesterol level, fertility hormone levels, diabetes, cancer, a semen analysis or to determine your child’s iron and Vitamin D levels (important for their growth).

The GP Surgery provides a comprehensive list of private blood tests, as well as other laboratory tests:

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do some blood tests require fasting?

What a person eats affects the level of specific components in their blood. For example, a person’s blood sugar level, specifically the glucose level, will rise temporarily after eating.
Typically, a person must not eat for several hours before a blood sugar test.
Other tests also require fasting, such as a fasting lipid panel. Always check with your doctor whether you need to fast before a test.

How long does a blood test take?

The blood draw process can be very quick if you have veins that are easily identified and accessed. The process usually takes five to 10 minutes.

Potential common after-effects from a blood test?

As only a small amount of blood is taken during the test, the probability of significant after-effects are very slim.
A haematoma (bruising) is a common side-effect of having a blood test.
If you have difficult veins, more than one attempt at obtaining your blood sample might be necessary.  Bruises can be painful, but are usually harmless and will fade in few days’ time.
Other potential side-effects of having a blood test, include a superficial infection. This is however minimised by the clean and sterile technique used.
A person could also feel faint after a blood draw. Anyone who feels light-headed should remain seated until the feeling passes.

Results notification

Your administration fee covers the blood tests, as well as an e-mail report (unless otherwise stated) with comments from the laboratory, specifying whether your test results are normal or abnormal.

If your results are abnormal, we recommend the use of our GP Telephone Results Interpreting Service to discuss the implications of the results.

However, any significantly abnormal results will be flagged up and our receptionists will be in contact to set up a call with your doctor.

Furthermore, if one of our doctors personally requested the blood tests, they will contact you directly in the case of any abnormalities present in your blood tests. Normal results will be posted out to you.
