Who is my Plastic Surgeon?
Here, at The GP Surgery, you will be operated on by Mr Masha Singh, who is a fully qualified London based Plastic Surgeon working in the NHS. Please feel free to see his biography page for further details. As you can see from his google reviews, all his patients have the utmost confidence in his ability.
All patients will have a consultation with Mr Singh prior to any surgery being performed. This is vitally important to assess the possible risk of skin cancer and if this is felt possible, how it might affect treatment. During your consultation, Mr Singh will assess your mole using Dermoscopy, the NICE (National Institute of Health and Care Excellence) recommended method of assessment of pigmented lesions, which helps aid diagnostic accuracy. If appropriate, you may also have your lymph nodes examined during this consultation.
Many patients often have anxiety about the scar that can result from mole removal. We will endeavour to give you the most subtle cosmetic scar possible. Mr Singh will discuss the details of this with you during your consultation as every mole and patient is unique.
Mr Singh will then spend time explaining the treatment options available and the benefits and risks of each. Should you wish to proceed to surgery, we can normally perform this the same day.
How will my Mole be removed?
A local anaesthetic will be injected around the lesion to make removal pain free. You may eat and drink normally for this form of anaesthetic.
The mole is removed with a small margin around it to ensure complete removal. The excision is in the form of an ellipse, stitched together to leave a fine line. The stitches may be dissolving underneath the skin or non-dissolving on the skin surface, in which case they will need to be removed following the surgery, either with our nurse or your local NHS GP Practice Nurse.
What is the recovery like?
A light dressing is applied that usually allows washing over the area, this would stay in place until your wound check appointment around a week later. If stitches need to be removed, they may be removed 1-2 weeks after the surgery depending on the site.
Your price includes the surgeon using stitches to close your wound. The cost of removing your stitches and reviewing your wound by our nurse 1-2 weeks later is £30, if however the stitches do not need to be removed, then the nurse led wound check is complimentary.
We would recommend that you allow your surgeon to send off all excised tissue samples to the lab for analysis. This is because, even though the lesion may look benign (that is, not cancerous), it is very important to check that it definitely is not cancerous. You will have this discussion before the procedure is undertaken.
